Former Brothel, Echuca
This building, with it’s colourful history, is included in the Heritage Overlay of the Campaspe Planning Scheme as HO51 - Former Brothel. It is also included in the Victorian Heritage Inventory for its potential to yield archaeological evidence of the lives of the former inhabitants of the place. The building was constructed somewhere between 1868-71, with oral histories indicating it was used as a brothel from 1887-1897. It was purchased by the City of Echuca in 1879. Quatrefoil was consulted to assess the condition of the building, and an associated outbuilding, prior to and following stabilisation works (carried out in 2011). A suite of remedial works was prepared following this condition assessment.
