Princes Bridge

The Princes Bridge is arguably the most prominent and recognisable in Melbourne, occupying a prime position between Federation Square and Flinders Street Station on the Yarra River. Constructed in 1886-88, it is a three-span curved iron plate girder bridge with course rock-face bluestone piers, abutments and wing walls. Princes Bridge is included in the Victorian Heritage Register [place number H1447] for its historical, social, architectural and aesthetic significance to the State of Victoria.

Quatrefoil partnered with Lovell Chen on the recent refurbishment of the bridge. Specifically, we assessed the delamination of the bluestone and detailed remedial actions that included the used of carbon fibre cramps - an exciting first for us. The works were completed in early 2020.
